John Neil Sugden

Research Scientist (Alumni)

John Sugden studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he gained an MA in modern languages. After a year working as Research Assistant in the German Department of University College London, he returned to Cambridge where he held the post of Research Fellow of King’s College for four years. His Ph.D. is in the field of comparative literature. A keen chess player, he has participated as editor and translator in the production of over 40 books on the game.

John is a member of the London-based computational linguistics team headed by David Levy. He was involved in designing the chatbot that won the Loebner Prize in 2009. He is currently working in the Imagineering Institute to develop a new enhanced version of the conversational software.
