Stefania Sini received the PhD in Architecture from Università di Cagliari in Italy with the thesis “Centers of knowledge: urban devices for the creation of smart cities” in which she explored the paradigm of smart or intelligent cities and how the pervasiveness of information and communication technologies amplifies interactions, increases context-awareness and enables novel forms of collaborations and collective intelligence.
During her doctoral studies, she awarded an internship from Consiglio Nazionale degli Ingegneri and Italian Scientists and Scholars of North America Foundation to join for a month the MIT Mobile Experience Lab in Boston and she spent six months as Visiting Scholar at the IIT Institute of Design in Chicago. Previously, she worked as Research Assistant in the project "Sustainable planning and urban design: the model of the smart city" at the Department of Civil, Environmental Engineering and Architecture, Università di Cagliari. Her research has been published in national and international conference’s proceedings. She obtained the Master degree in Building Engineering and Architecture from Università di Cagliari and the Master in Advanced Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia in Barcelona.
Currently, she is Research Fellow at the Imagineering Institute where she continues to explore the role of information and communication technologies in urban environments, and the implications of smart technologies in opening up novel opportunities for generating interactive and playful experiences of cities.
